Steve Nackers joins the Scrum Day 2023 speaker roster, where he will share his thoughts on building resilient teams to create effective work. Steve has been with Sub-Zero Group for over 20 years, filling roles ranging from production floor support to advanced development of loT platforms. In his current role, Steve oversees the company’s software, hardware, mobile and cloud platforms.
Steve is the chair of the Connectivity Task Force at the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers and is a member of the Industrial Advisory Board for the University of Wisconsin – Madison College of Mechanical Engineering.
Steve’s introduction to Agile
Steve first encountered Scrum through one of Sub-Zero’s software supply partners and was impressed by what they could accomplish using an Agile approach. “From there,” Steve states, ”I took several classes to understand how I could use Agile in my various domains.”
Agile success story
In early 2022 one of the major microchip shortages hit Sub-Zero. “We used Scrum with a small breakout team to execute a new software and hardware design in just 21 days with full regression testing,” states Steve. The move saved the company millions of dollars in lost production avoidance.
Steve says Agile works well at Sub-Zero because it allows the company to balance multiple stakeholder asks against available resources while delivering value. It has also proven useful in tracking and justifying team growth.
What Steve looks forward to at Scrum Day 2023
“The retrospective is one of the most valuable Agile processes for us, offering the chance to look back at what we did and figure out how to improve,” states Steve. “Events such as Scrum Day offer a similar opportunity to learn from how others have improved and grown.”
Scrum Day is scheduled for September 14, 2023, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin.
