Imagine you had a team of the best basketball players of the early 21st century. Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Carmello Anthony, Tim Duncan, Amar’e Stoudemire, and Allen Iverson amongst others. How do you think this team would perform in a tournament? There is a general assumption that if you want to get the best performance out of a team, you have to hire the best talent available onto that team. We will look at research that shows that in many conditions this can be demonstrably false. We will explore the differences between individual-focused(Baseball) and team-focused(Basketball) activities and the difference individual talent makes.
